We’ve all heard how important water is for our health, especially since 75% of our body is water. But, did you ever consider that the kind of water you drink could be contributing to a host of diseases and health issues? Dr. Mehmet Oz (from the Oprah Show) recently advised the public to safeguard against pollutants lurking in tap water such as fecal matter and other bacteria. Findings also support the undeniable fact that most bottled water is nothing more than tap water and acidic.

While this is disturbing, it warrants our attention and exploration of our options. One option is installing a reverse osmosis (RO) system to purify your drinking water or drinking distilled water. A clean choice, but "Dead" since all the minerals have been removed. Purified (RO) or distilled waters are also unable to penetrate the cellular membrane to hydrate and clean out the cells. Cellular hydration is achieved by a "micro-clustering" process.

When the body needs water, people drink soft drinks or other beverages instead. The worst thing is, drinking beverages that contain a lot of sugars; people will get even more dehydrated because of the sugar. Most of us are not drinking enough water to flush out the toxins. The only proper way to flush out toxins in the body is by drinking water and not with caffeine or other sugary beverages. So, what water should we drink?

Recently, I was introduced to a 35 year old Japanese company named Enagic that manufactures a medical device in Japan that restructures tap water into alkaline, micro-clustered water. My mother gave me a glass of this water known as Kangen water and I couldn’t get enough. It was unlike any water I ever had before. My body craved it. After drinking this water for a couple of weeks I slept soundly for the first time in years since my stroke, my stamina and energy level increased dramatically and my weakened leg and arm muscles grew stronger. Even my speech improved. I began my research and discovered many of the world’s leading health experts - even medical doctors and surgeons - were using and endorsing this technology.

First, let me warn you. There are many look-alikes and knock-offs flooding the internet. They have spent millions to discredit this device saying every imaginable thing to divert and confuse consumers. One of the MANY reasons!!!

One lady shared her story, while doing so, she listed one of the reasons that I LOVE Kangen Water(TM).

Just wanted to let you know that yesterday I cleaned my whole carpet
with the 11.5 - put it in a carpet cleaner machine and I was VERY
impressed with how well it cleaned!! In fact, there was a stain that our
dog left 3 years ago (on her last night with us - she lost everything in
her because of cancer that night) that the professional carpet cleaner
didn't get out, it is about 97% gone!! It has worked for a spot remover
many times, but this was the whole carpet!!! Loved it!!

Do you want to be healthy? Drinking soda is bad for your health in so many ways; science can’t even state all the consequences. Here’s what happens in your body when you assault it with a Coke:
Within the first 10 minutes, 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. This is 100 percent of your recommended daily intake, and the only reason you don’t vomit as a result of the overwhelming sweetness is because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor.
Within 20 minutes, your blood sugar spikes, and your liver responds to the resulting insulin burst by turning massive amounts of sugar into fat.

How many sodas have you had today? How about your kids? As of 2005, white bread was dethroned as the number one source of calories in the American diet, being replaced by soft drinks.

The average American drinks more than 60 gallons of soft drinks each year, but before you grab that next can of soda, consider this: one can of soda has about 10 teaspoons of sugar, 150 calories, 30 to 55 mg of caffeine, and is loaded with artificial food colors and sulphites. Not to mention the fact that it’s also your largest source of dangerous high-fructose modified corn syrup.
Let’s take a look at some of the other major components of a can of soda:

Phosphoric Acid: Which can interfere with the body's ability to use calcium, leading to osteoporosis or softening of the teeth and bones.

Sugar: It is a proven fact that sugar increases insulin levels, which can lead to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, weight gain, premature aging and many more negative side effects. Most sodas include over 100 percent of the RDA of sugar. Sugar is so bad for your health in so many ways, I even created an entire list outlining 100-Plus Ways in Which Sugar Can Damage Your Health
Aspartame: This chemical is used as a sugar substitute in diet soda. There are over 92 different health side effects associated with aspartame consumption including brain tumors, birth defects, diabetes, emotional disorders and epilispsy/seizures.
Caffeine: Caffeinated drinks cause jitters, insomnia, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, elevated blood cholesterol levels, vitamin and mineral depletion, breast lumps, birth defects, and perhaps some forms of cancer.

Tap Water: I recommend that everyone avoid drinking tap water because it can carry any number of chemicals including chlorine, trihalomethanes, lead, cadmium, and various organic pollutants. Tap water is the main ingredient in bottled soft drinks.
Clearly, the over-consumption of sodas and sweet drinks is one of the leading causes fueling the world-wide obesity epidemic.

One independent, peer-reviewed study published in the British medical journal The Lancet demonstrated a strong link between soda consumption and childhood obesity. They found that 12-year-olds who drank soft drinks regularly were more likely to be overweight than those who didn't. In fact, for each additional daily serving of sugar-sweetened soft drink consumed during the nearly two-year study, the risk of obesity jumped by 60 percent.

Here’s another sobering fact if you’re struggling with weight issues: Just one extra can of soda per day can add as much as 15 pounds to your weight over the course of a single year!

Other statistics on the health dangers of soft drinks include:

One soda per day increases your risk of diabetes by 85 percent
Soda drinkers have higher cancer risk. While the federal limit for benzene in drinking water is 5 parts per billion (ppb), researchers have found benzene levels as high as 79 ppb in some soft drinks, and of the 100 brands tested, most had at least some detectable level of benzene present
Soda has been shown to cause DNA damage – courtesy of sodium benzoate, a common preservative found in many soft drinks, which has the ability to switch off vital parts of your DNA. This could eventually lead to diseases such as cirrhosis of the liver and Parkinson's.

If you are still drinking soda, stopping the habit is an easy way to improve your health. Pure water is a much better choice, or if you must drink a carbonated beverage, try sparkling mineral water with a squirt of lime or lemon juice.
There is absolutely NO REASON your kids should ever drink soda. None, nada, zip, zero. No excuses. The elimination of soft drinks is one of the most crucial factors to deal with many of the health problems you or your children suffer.

The label on the can makes no mention of heart disease, high blood pressure, or death. Red Bull gives you wings. Harp and halo sold separately.

For the nearly two decades since entering the US market, Red Bull has been running from controversy like a bovine through a Pamplona street. The energy drink has been implicated in a number of serious, even fatal, swigging and swooning incidents all across the globe.

In 1999, 18-year-old Irish basketball player Ross Cooney died of sudden adult death syndrome after a game, when just hours before he'd shared four cans of Red Bull. Two years later, Tim Lloyd, 33, suffered a fatal heart attack after drinking a pitcher of Red Bull and vodka in Hong Kong. Matthew Penbross, a 28-year-old Australian motocross competitor, experienced heart failure at a 2007 event during which he consumed eight cans of Red Bull over a five-hour period. In April 2008, Alfredo Duran, 40, died of cardiac arrest at the end of his night shift in a supermarket in England after drinking up to four cans of Red Bull each night. Five months later, Red Bull may have contributed to the death of 21-year-old Chloe Leach, who collapsed at a dance club in England after imbibing at least four cans of the energy drink along with a vodka drink that also contained caffeine. While the student had an existing heart condition and epilepsy, a neuropathologist said the high levels of caffeine found in her system exacerbated the cardiac arrhythmia that killed her.

Most recently, Brooke Robertson, a 23-year-old Australian new mother, conducted her own Red Bull Super Size Me experiment in order to shed her baby weight and lived on a daily diet of 10 to 14 Red Bulls and a handful of dry cereal for eight months. While she did lose 100 pounds, she also gained a heart attack and ongoing health problems.

All of these dangerous and deadly accounts that include mention of Red Bull beg the question: Do these claims have any scientific proof or is this all just a load of bollocks? Several recent studies testing the effects of Red Bull on cardiovascular functioning have concluded a "Mess with the bull and you'll get the horns" outcome.

A 2008 Australian study found that Red Bull can increase your risk of heart attack or stroke. Just one can of sugar-free Red Bull caused the blood of healthy subjects to become sticky and temporarily raised their cardiovascular risk to levels seen in individuals with cardiovascular disease.

Researchers at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit determined in 2009 that healthy adults who drank two cans a day of energy drinks including Red Bull, Full Throttle (KO), Amp (PEP), and Rush experienced a 10-point increase in blood pressure and a five to seven beat increase in heart rate. Postural tachycardia syndrome (an increase in heart rate of more than 30 bpm within 10 minutes of sitting or standing up) studied in a 16-year-old female volleyball player was found to be induced by Red Bull overuse.

But Red Bull disagrees with such assertions. The company tells Minyanville, "There are no risks associated with the consumption of Red Bull. Red Bull has been on the market for more than 22 years and is now sold in more than 150 countries. In 2009, almost 4 billion cans of Red Bull Energy Drink were sold worldwide. Red Bull could only have such global sales because health authorities across the world have concluded that Red Bull is safe to consume."

So what's inside that skinny eight-ounce red, blue, and silver can? The primary ingredients are sugar, the amino acid taurine, glucuronolactone, and B vitamins. And while the effects of consuming these additives is not fully known, the caffeine (equivalent to one cup of brewed coffee) seems to be the culprit behind troubling reports, especially when consumed in excess. In fact, it's the caffeine in Red Bull that has authors of a Johns Hopkins study urging its regulation.

In 2008, Red Bull courted trouble again when it unveiled a new cola product, pitching, "We simply believe that a cola can also be made from natural ingredients. Just like back in the old days...Thanks to its special recipe, the cola from Red Bull is not just a cola, but a cola of a special kind: strong and natural." When German officials learned one of the ingredients in the cola's special recipe was trace amounts of cocaine, the drink was qualified as a narcotic and banned in several German states.

To be fair, Red Bull's claim of paying homage to the good "old days" of cola is an honest one. How else could Coke have gotten its first customers so hooked?

In recent years there have been many questions raised about the safety of drinking alkaline water during pregnancy, for both mother and baby. This article has been written to help answer these questions. World renowned authorities on Health & Wellness were contacted and in-depth research was conducted in order to find out if drinking alkaline water during pregnancy is hazardous or beneficial.

"When a woman gets pregnant, she loses quite a bit of alkaline minerals to the fetus. The fetus stays in a water bag (placenta) for 9 months, until the water breaks. During that time, the fetus receives nutrients
through the umbilical cord for energy and growth. When the nutrients are burnt, they create acidic wastes, which the fetus must discharge into the placenta. Since the mother's blood vessels are not connected to the fetus' blood vessels, her blood vessels cannot carry out the wastes that the fetus makes.

In the early stage of the pregnancy, mother's body loses alkaline minerals to the placenta to make sure that the adequate amounts of alkaline minerals are there to neutralize all the acidic discharges from fetus for the next 9 months. This causes her blood to become acidic rather suddenly, which is the cause of morning sickness, as discovered by Japanese doctors. This is why drinking alkaline water immediately relieves morning sickness.

If the mother had adequate alkaline reserve, i.e., plenty of alkaline mineral supply in the form of alkaline buffer in the blood, she would not even have morning sickness. Otherwise, not only would she have a severe case of morning sickness, but the placenta will not have enough alkaline minerals to neutralize all the acidic discharges from the fetus during the pregnancy. In this case, the baby's chance of having jaundice upon birth is very high.

Before a woman becomes pregnant, she should drink ample amount of alkaline water to avoid morning sickness and have a healthy baby. Without enough alkaline minerals, the woman ages considerably during pregnancy and may experience all kinds of post-delivery problems, such as those mentioned above. I know a woman who lost her teeth after delivery, because she lost so much calcium to the newborn during pregnancy.
Pregnancy is a major cause of osteoporosis among women. Lack of alkalinity brings about many diseases; over acidity creates solid wastes such as cholesterol, fatty acid, uric acid, kidney stones, plaques, etc. Excess acid thickens the blood, which slows down the blood circulation, and poor blood circulation invites all kinds of pain and diseases.

From the time we are in our mothers' womb to the time we die, our lives go through a constant balancing act of acid and alkaline. Acid leads to pain and sickness and eventual death; alkaline leads to health and longevity. Even with diet and exercise, acidity usually wins. We need an external boost of alkalinity to offset the imbalance of excess acid.

The following is an excerpt from "Water: For Health For Healing For Life," a book by dehydration pioneer and researcher, Dr. F. Batmanghelidj, one of the foremost authorities on hydration and advisor to celebrities like life coach Anthony Robbins.
"Early pregnancy morning sickness is a signal of dehydration of the mother and fetus. It is caused by the water and the regulatory action of histamine. Pregnancy creates a very high demand for water. As the fetus grows into a full-term baby, over 1 trillion cell divisions take place. Each new cell must be filled with water. Pregnant women need and should drink water and eliminate all sources of dehydration, especially the consumption of caffeine and alcohol."

In a 15 year study of alkaline water by renowned Japanese doctors from the Japanese Water Institute and Kyowa Medical Clinic many benefits of drinking alkaline water were discovered, including specific benefits for pregnant women.

"The following are some of the experiences of pregnant women who drank alkaline water during their pregnancy; almost no emesis, smooth delivery, reduced cases of jaundice, increased lactation, smooth and satisfactory growth of newborns. There was also Improvement of hyperbilirubinemia in newborns."

The best alkaline water comes directly from nature. However, alkaline water can actually be created in several different ways, including alkaline drops. These drops are chemical additives that boost the alkalinity of the water, but that taste very bad. While these drops are an option, they are not suggested, as health effects on mother and unborn child from exposure to these chemicals is unknown.

The best quality "man-made" alkaline water is derived from high technology water ionization machines. The technology that drives these machines was perfected in Japan and products of this type from Japan seem to be the highest quality, in both manufacturing and components. One of the added benefits of alkaline water produced by an ionization machine is a property of the water called "micro-clustering". During the ionization process, groupings of water molecules, typically 15 - 20 molecules or more, are broken down into smaller groupings, 4 - 6 molecules. These reduced "clusters" allow for greater penetration and absorption by the body. This is particularly advantageous when taking supplements, as the smaller clusters are able to better distribute the vitamins and minerals that they carry. This is extremely helpful for women that are taking prenatal vitamins. In addition, alkaline water, produced by ionization machines, contains a very high content of useful and needed minerals. For pregnant women, it provides calcium ions, which are needed by both the mother and fetus. It also replenishes calcium loss for mothers-to-be and strengthens bones and teeth structure of the developing fetus.

A recent news report detailed a problem with chlorine that is being added into tap water. The report explained that chlorine, which is added to disinfect the water, creates chlorine by-products, such as THMs (Trihalomethanes), which are known carcinogens. In order to reduce the amount of THMs in the water, cities are now adding ammonia in addition to the chlorine, to create chloramines. Kidney dialysis patients and pregnant women are warned not to drink chloraminated water because of potential health risks.

Startling news was revealed on The Today Show in 2008. Matt Lauer interviewed Dr. Leo Trasand of Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Trasand issued a warning about the dangers of drinking some bottled water. The piece refers to the danger of chemical, Bisphenol A showing up in some plastic bottles. He is quoted, "Unfortunately there is no level of exposure that has been identified as being safe." And he added, "Science suggests that there is a major concern here." Regarding that chemical, Earth911 references an article from The Arizona Republic,
"The chemical in question, Bisphenol A (BPA), has been linked to breast and uterine cancer, as well as decreased testosterone levels.

Dan Tessier, a Toxicologist made a statement in The Today Show piece, "The effects are primarily reproductive, and fertility effects on both male and female organisms." Lauer added, "I think this is going to startle a lot of people. A Center for Disease Control Study detected BPA (Bisphenol A), in the urine of 95% of adults sampled. Scientists have measured BPA in the blood of pregnant women, umbilical cord blood and in the placentas all at levels demonstrated in animals to alter development."

These three moms, along with 211 other women, are taking part in a historic class-action lawsuit, alleging that their town's tainted tap water put their unborn children at risk.

Val Wilson, 40, was pregnant four times between April 1994 and May 1997 with what would have been her first child. Only once did she make it beyond 12 weeks. "In November 1996, I was five months along and everything was fine," Wilson recalls. "One night, I woke up and my water had broken and I was in labor. The baby was stillborn a few hours later. I was crushed."

Annette Spaven, 40, thought her family was complete in early 1998; she had three children, the youngest of whom was five years old. When she discovered she was pregnant again, it was a surprise -- but she and her husband quickly warmed to the idea of having another child. Spaven miscarried at ten weeks. "We were really disappointed, and a few months later we tried again." By August she was pregnant, but she miscarried again at seven weeks.

Malithia Smith, 30, had had one successful pregnancy before suffering three miscarriages between May 1999 and May 2000. Each time, she began spotting at eight weeks, and each time, the doctor could not determine what had gone wrong. "The first time, I just thought, 'These things happen,'" Smith remembers. "The second time, it shook me up, and by the time I lost the third baby, I was really scared."

The three had no idea what was causing their miscarriages. But ultimately, each of them gave birth to a healthy child after making one simple lifestyle change: They stopped drinking the tap water.

It didn't come as a surprise when in 2004 the water in Coca-Cola's Dasani bottled water brand was found to be tap water taken from the municipal water supply. More recently, Pepsi's Aquafina brand also admitted to the same act and, as of July 27, has printed the words "Public Water Source" on every one of their bottles. When a glass of water from the tap is nearly free, why do consumers insist on draining their savings, spending roughly
$15 billion a year, according to CNN, for water in a plastic package? Has tap water become too low-brow for most Americans? Have we reached the point where we will only drink
something sold to us by a marketing team? Or are we afraid of the municipal water system that kept us and our ancestors hydrated for generations?

In the United States, bottled water is regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, while water from the tap is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency. Last year, the FDA was forced to order a recall of Wegmans' Feel Good About Spring Water, when it was found to contain dangerously high concentrations of the cancer-causing chemical, bromate. In 2004, bottles of Dasani in the United Kingdom were also found to have bromate contamination. Just as important as what is in bottled water is what is not. "Kids are getting cavities again from drinking bottled water," said David Richardson, the supervisor of water customer service for Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW). According to the GCWW web site, people
who drink fluoridated water have roughly half of the number of cavities as people who drink water without fluoride, and bottled water may not contain fluoride, as many filtration devices remove fluoride from the water.

As of 1970, state law requires tap water to contain fluoride, while bottled water is not. People are paying more for less. Richardson said the cost of 750 gallons of water from the GCWW is $1.39. The price of 750 gallons of bottled water can be as much as $4,800.
Some people are afraid that tap water may not be safe. According to the GCWW web site, Cincinnati's tap water is tested 300 times per day to make sure it meets federal, state and local requirements for safety. "We do above and beyond all those," said Richardson. "The biggest new thing that we do is UV treatment. It disinfects chloride-resistant microbes. We use a carbon filter treatment. It was one of the first in the country. The Japanese
come, even to this day, to check [the GCWW treatment plants] out." According to the FDA web site, bottled water manufacturers are only required to test for cyanide, arsenic and many other harmful chemicals once a year.

On Dec. 1, San Francisco will no longer provide bottled water to city employees, instead opting for bottleless alternatives, according to The San Francisco Chronicle. Gavin Newsom, the mayor of San Francisco, said, "The global consumption of bottled water was measured at 41 billion gallons in 2004, up 57 percent from the previous five years. This consumption increase occurred despite the fact that bottled water often costs 240 to 10,000 times more than tap water."

Newsom continued, "According to the Container Recycling Institute, supplying the plastic water bottles that American consumers purchase in one year requires more than 47 million gallons of oil, the equivalent of one billion pounds of carbon dioxide that is released into the atmosphere.
